Teen Prenatal Supper Club
A Program for Pregnant Teens
Teen Prenatal Supper Clubs run 2 hours each week, year-round, for expectant teens. Participants can attend until their babies are 3 months of age. Each week expectant teens learn how to prepare a nutritious meal and are provided with the recipe so the meals can be made at home.
Babies born to teenage mothers are at higher risk for health related problems. Risk factors include: pre-term babies, babies born with immediately identifiable congenital abnormalities and a higher risk for low-birth weight babies. Pregnant teens themselves are also at greater risk, including, for example anemia, hypertension and depressive disorders.

Program Commendations
“We have a big variety of foods here. Like pizza bagels, and stir fry and fish fillets, and barbecued chicken.”
“We’ve gotten recipes from here and I’ll use them at home if I can’t think of anything to make because they’re easy to make”.
“They talk a lot about healthy relationships and abusive relationships. It allows you to reflect upon the relationships that you are currently in and make changes.”
“Yeah it’s true because I thought I was the only one with a ‘bad’ boyfriend but coming here showed me that I wasn’t the only one with a ‘bad’ boyfriend.”
“One of the things that kept me coming back to the program was the peer group here. All the girls are going through the same thing so it’s like my friends outside of here don’t have kids so it’s a different dynamic and you can’t talk to them about pooping and dirty diapers and vomit with your friends.”
“There’s a lot of teen programs but there’s not a lot for young adults, like 16-24. I was 19 when I had my baby and I don’t want to be in a group with 13 year olds.”
“I know more because of the program. Books are books you know but when the real reality hits you when you’re around real people and talking about it and what they’re feeling before they have their baby; it’s more realistic that way. So I think it really helped me.”
“I’ve learned patience. I never used to have patience, you have to, you need patience and this program has taught me that. I used to handle my anger in a negative way and now I know how to handle my anger now. I get in my own little zone and that’s how I relieve my stress.”
“I like coming to see other mothers.”
